New Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs – November 2019

Among the many accredited, not-for-profit colleges and universities that have recently launched new online bachelor’s degree programs are SUNY Empire State College, The Pennsylvania State University, Louisiana State University, Purdue Global, and Unity College. The new online undergraduate programs offered by these schools include bachelor’s program in addiction studies, construction management, commercial recreation management, data analytics, interdisciplinary studies, animal health, and environmental science.

SUNY Empire State College – Online Bachelor of Science in Addiction Studies Program

SUNY Empire State College, which is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) public university system, will begin offering a new Bachelor of Science (BS) in Addiction Studies degree program in the spring of 2020. The program gives students the option of completing coursework online, on campus, or through a mix of campus-based and online classes. Students in the program must complete SUNY’s general education requirements, including courses in English composition, behavior sciences, physical sciences, and various humanities subjects, as well as courses in the Addiction Studies major in order to graduate. The BS in Addiction Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with training for New York State’s Credentialed Alcoholism Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) license. SUNY Empire is currently accepting applicants to the program for the upcoming term, which begins in mid-January.

The Pennsylvania State University – Online Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management) Program

Penn State World Campus, the online division of The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), has launched a new online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) program with a Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management focus. The program, which is offered in tandem with Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development, is designed to provide students with broad training in sport and recreation service management. It includes coursework in organizational leadership, the design and marketing of leisure and recreation programs, the legal and political dimensions of recreation services, and sustainability issues in park and tourism management. In addition to general education undergraduate courses and required and elective coursework in the RPTM major, students in the program must complete an internship experience at a business, agency, or organization that aligns with the program’s curricular objectives, such as a vacation resort, municipal recreation center, sports franchise, theme park, or music festival.

Louisiana State University – Online Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and Online Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Programs

Louisiana State University (LSU) has added two new online bachelor’s programs to the growing slate of programs the school now offers through LSU Online: an online Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSCM) program; and an online Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program. Students in the online BSCM program must complete 38 credits of general education requirements, 51 Construction Management core credits, and 18 credits of Business Administration courses. Additional courses for the 122 credits needed to graduate from the program can be earned in one of the program’s four Industry Emphasis Areas (Industrial, Highway, Commercial, and Residential Construction) or through a minor in Technical Sales.

The online BIS program is designed for students who want to combine studies in the social sciences with coursework in business and the humanities. Students in the program must complete LSU’s general education curriculum requirements and may then choose nine upper division courses offered through the LSU’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences to complete their major.

Purdue Global – Online Bachelor of Science in Analytics Program

Purdue Global, an online affiliate of Indiana’s Purdue University state system, has introduced a new online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Analytics degree program. The program, which includes core coursework in computer programing, statistics, cryptography, and data reporting and visualization, is designed to provide students with training that can lead to several professional certifications, such as Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), and Cloudera Certified Associate (CCA) Data Analyst. Students in the program, which is currently accepting applications for start dates in January, March, June, and August of 2020, have the option of pursuing a concentration in Supply Chain Management and Logistics.

Unity College – Online Bachelor of Science Programs in Animal Health and Behavior, and Environmental Science and Climate Change

Maine’s Unity College, a private, non-profit liberal arts school located in the central part of the state, launched several new online undergraduate degree programs this fall, including two new online Bachelor of Science (BS) programs: a BS in Animal Health and Behavior program; and a BS in Environmental Science and Climate Change program. The Animal Health and Behavior curriculum is designed to prepare students for professional careers in animal shelters, veterinary clinics, wildlife preserves, and animal rehabilitation centers, and the program includes a pre-veterinary track for students who aim to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. The Environmental Science and Climate Change program features concentrations in Environmental Health and Safety, Renewable Energy, Geographic Information System Science, Sustainable Business, Emergency Disaster Management, and Wildlife Ecology. Both programs have multiple annual start dates and are accepting applicants for terms that begin in January, February, and March of 2020.
