Online Master’s in Human Resource Management (HRM) Programs in Oklahoma

With the exception of the online Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs with specializations in Human Resource Management (HRM) offered by Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Oklahoma Christian University, there are currently no colleges or universities in Oklahoma that offer online master’s in human resources or HRM programs. There are, however, several schools in neighboring states from which Oklahoma residents can earn a master’s in HRM degree online, including Webster University in Missouri, the University of Denver (DU) in Colorado, and Wayland Baptist University (WBU) in Texas.

Webster University’s Walker School of Business & Technology has two online programs in human resources: an online Master of Arts (MA) in HRM program designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in business or credited college-level coursework in accounting, business, economics, marketing, and statistics; and an online MA in Human Resource Development (HRD) that is more suitable for students who do not have significant undergraduate coursework in business, economics, accounting, and marketing. DU has an online Master of Science (MS) in Strategic Human Resources program that gives students the option of specializing in: Employment Relations; Human Resource Management and Development; Human Resource Operations; Human Capital in Organizations; and Learning and Development.

WBU, which is located in the Texas city of Plainview, offers an online Master of Arts in Management (MAM) program with a Human Resource Management (HRM) concentration. The program also offers concentrations in Organizational Management, and Healthcare Administration.

Online Master’s in Counseling and Psychology Programs in Oklahoma

While there are currently no schools in Oklahoma that offer an online master’s degree in clinical or school counseling, Oklahoma State University (OSU) offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Educational Psychology program. The program, which consists of 36-credits of coursework and gives students the option of completing a thesis or capstone project, provides training and instruction in social and developmental psychology, learning processes, creativity in teaching, and education research methods. Students typically complete the program in 18 to 24 months.

Another program that can be completed online through an in-state school is the Master of Prevention Science program offered by The University of Oklahoma (UO). The 33-credit program, which can be completed in one year of full-time enrollment, has an interdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on accepted theories and practices for preventing substance abuse in individuals and communities. The program is designed to prepare graduates for the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium’s Certified Prevention Specialist credential.

Among the schools in neighboring states that offer online master’s programs in counseling and psychology are Southern Arkansas University (SAU), Kansas State University (KSU), and two private schools in Texas: Lamar University and Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). SAU has an online Master of Education (MEd) in School Counseling program with a track for licensed elementary and secondary school teachers, and a track for educators who do not hold a teaching license. In addition to taking online courses, students in the SAU program must complete 600 hours of internship experiences at school or community counseling clinic approved by the program.

The College of Arts & Sciences at KSU offers an online MS in Industrial and Organizational Psychology program that requires students to attend two weeks of campus-based summer classes in year one and year two of the program. The program’s curriculum focuses on the use of psychological theory and practices in human resource management, job training, workforce testing and evaluation, and organizational leadership.

Lamar University offers two online MEd programs in counseling through its College of Education and Human Development: a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program; and a Counseling and Development program with tracks in School Counseling and Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. Both of Lamar’s online MEd programs require students to attend a five-day campus residency, and the MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling has two additional campus-based seminars that students are required to attend.

OLLU offers an online Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling program with three specializations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; and School Counseling. The 48-credit School Counseling specialization takes 2.5 years to complete; the 60-credit Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling programs take between three and four years to complete. All three program specializations require students to complete clinical practicum and internship hours at sites approved by the program.

Online Master’s in Liberal Arts and Liberal Studies Programs in Oklahoma

Students who are interested in earning an interdisciplinary master’s degree in liberal arts or studies have two in-state options. The University of Oklahoma (UO) offers an online Master of Arts (MA) in Integrated Studies program through its Extended Campus initiative. The program allows students to take a mix of graduate-level courses in the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities. While the program has a self-directed track for students who would like to design their own master’s program curriculum, it also offers designated tracks in Diversity, Interdisciplinary Research Methods, and Volunteerism & Social Entrepreneurship.

Northeastern State University (NSU) offers an online MA in American Studies program with a curriculum that is designed to encourage students to take an interdisciplinary approach to studying the American experience. Students in the program take two required core courses and then choose their plan of study from electives in three categories: Cultural Studies; History; and American Politics. To complete the program, students may choose a thesis option, a public internship option, or a comprehensive exam option.

In addition to online master’s in liberal arts and studies programs offered by Oklahoma schools, there are online programs offered by schools in the neighboring states of Colorado and Texas that Oklahoma residents may be interested in exploring. Colorado’s Regis University offers an online Master of Arts (MA) program with a humanities focus through its School for Professional Advancement. Online Master’s in Health Administration (MHA) Programs in Oklahoma

The Center for Health Science at Oklahoma State University (OSU) offers an online Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program with concentrations in Administration and Leadership/Entrepreneurship. While the program does not require students to have prior professional experience in healthcare, applicants are asked to outline any experience they have had in a healthcare profession as part of the program’s admissions process.

While there are no other schools in Oklahoma currently offering online MHA programs, The University of Oklahoma (UO) has an online Master of Arts (MA) in Human and Health Services Administration (HHSA) program with a curriculum that is similar to an MHA curriculum. The program includes coursework in strategic planning in HHSA, cross-cultural health issues, and the psychosocial aspects of disability, as well as a 225-hour internship that must be completed at a site approved by the program. It typically takes students two years to graduate from UO’s online MA in HHSA program.

Among the many accredited, non-profit colleges and universities in other states that offer online MHA programs, there are several schools in neighboring states with programs Oklahoma residents may want to explore. Maryville University in St. Louis has an online MHA program with a general health administration curriculum and four optional concentrations: Data Management; Healthcare Strategies; Population Management; and Senior Strategies. The Maryville program can be completed in two years.

Texas Tech University in Lubbock is another school in a neighboring state that offers an online master’s in health administration program. The Texas Tech program is an online Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MSHA) program with a core curriculum that includes coursework in healthcare delivery systems, human resource management, healthcare finance and economics, and health informatics. Students in the program can also choose among electives in topics like organizational behavior, long-term care administration, healthcare entrepreneurship, and supply chain management.

Online Master’s in Social Work (MSW) Programs in Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, The University of Oklahoma (OU) currently offers the only online Master of Social Work (MSW) program that is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program, which is offered through OU’s Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work, has an Advanced Integrative curriculum that allows students to choose between concentrations in Advanced Macro Practice or Client-Centered Direct Practice social work. Students in the program take all of their didactic coursework online while completing 1010 hours of site-based field education at social work agencies and other places where social work services are provided (e.g., hospitals, clinics, health departments, long-term care facilities, and community social service organizations). The program has a full-time, two-year track, as well as three-year and four-year part-time tracks for traditional students. Students who hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited undergraduate program may be eligible for OU’s Advanced Standing MSW program, which can be completed in one or two years.

In addition, there are several schools in neighboring states that offer online MSW programs. The University of Missouri, for example, has an online Master of Social Work (MSW) program that it offers through Mizzou Online. The Mizzou Online program has two concentrations: Advanced Clinical Practice; and Policy, Planning, and Administration. It can be completed in three years of part-time enrollment (two courses per semester) by traditional students, and two years of part-time enrollment by students who hold a BSW from a program accredited by the CSWE and who thus qualify for the program’s Advanced Standing track. In addition to online coursework, students in the Mizzou Online program are required to complete supervised field practicums at social work agencies and organizations approved by the program.

The University of Arkansas (U of A) has an online Advanced Standing MSW program that can be completed in one year of full-time enrollment by qualified students who hold a BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program. The program, which offers training and instruction in clinical and macro practice social work, utilizes a cohort model in which students progress through online courses in designated groups while engaging in 22 hours of field education per week at program-approved sites.

New Mexico State University (NMSW) is another university in the Oklahoma region that offers an online MSW program. NMSU’s School of Social Work has a full-time, two-year, online MSW program with an Advanced Generalist curriculum that provides training and instruction in clinical and macro practice social work. Students are required to complete four courses per semester while engaging in 16 to 24 hours of supervised practicum and field education per week.

Note: Online MSW programs require students to complete supervised field education hours at sites approved by the program. Oklahoma residents who are considering programs offered by out-of-state schools may want to contact a program administrator in advance regarding potential field placements in order to ensure that a convenient site is available. Students who intend to apply to become licensed clinical social workers after graduating from an online MSW program offered by an out-of-state school should review Oklahoma’s licensing requirements carefully in advance, as licensing requirements for clinical social workers vary by state.

Online Master’s in Engineering Programs in Oklahoma

Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Oklahoma Christian University are two schools in the state that offer online master’s programs in engineering. Through its College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology, OSU offers two types of master’s in electrical engineering programs online: an online Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electrical Engineering program with a professional and applied engineering focus; and an online Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering program that is designed to prepare students for doctoral level studies and that requires the completion of a master’s thesis. In addition, OSU has online MS programs in: Engineering & Technology Management; Industrial Engineering & Management; and Engineering Technology – Fire Safety & Explosion Protection.

Oklahoma Christian University has an MS in Engineering program with several on-campus and hybrid technical engineering specialization options, and an Engineering Leadership track that can be completed online. The Engineering Leadership track features five core engineering courses, electives in specializations like software engineering, power systems, engineering materials, and additive manufacture, several business courses, and a culminating project in engineering leadership.

Oklahoma residents who are interested in earning an online master’s in engineering degree through a program offered by an out-of-state school may want to explore the programs offered by the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas (U of A). The U of A has an online MS in Engineering program that is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and that allows students to choose from coursework in several engineering fields, including: biological; chemical; civil; computer; electrical; industrial; and mechanical engineering. In addition, U of A offers an online MS in Electrical Engineering program with an Electrical Power Engineering emphasis, and an online MS in Engineering Management program. The Missouri program is an online MS in Electrical Engineering program with a thesis option and a non-thesis option. It is designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and it features seven concentrations: Circuits; Communications & Signal Processing; Computer Engineering; Control Systems Technology; Electromagnetics; Electronics; and Power.

Finally, Arkansas State University (A-State) has an online Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program that does not require applicants to hold an undergraduate degree in engineering. The program consists of ten courses that can be completed in as few as 12 months.

Online Master’s in Accounting Programs in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Christian University is one school in the state that offers an online master’s program in accounting. The Oklahoma Christian University program is a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program that gives students the choice of attending on-campus classes or enrolling in online courses. The program is designed for students who have an undergraduate degree in accounting or the equivalent (30 semester hours of bachelor’s-level accounting and business coursework). Students who meet these requirements can complete the program in as few as 12 months.

Maryville University, an accredited, non-profit private school located in the Missouri city of St. Louis, is an out-of-state school in the Oklahoma region that offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Accounting program. The Maryville program has a bridge curriculum for students who did not major in accounting as undergraduates, a seven-class accounting core, and four additional courses that prepare students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

The University Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) also offers an online MS in Accounting program that Oklahoma residents may want to explore. There are no online master’s in speech-language pathology (SLP) programs offered by schools located in the state of Oklahoma. However, there are several online master’s in SLP programs offered in neighboring states that Oklahoma residents may want to explore.

Texas’s Baylor University offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program that is designed for aspiring speech-language pathologists who are interested in pursuing licensure. The 45-credit program can be completed in five semesters of full-time enrollment or ten semesters of part-time enrollment and requires a clinical practicum and internship. Baylor’s CSD curriculum is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences or a related field. However, Baylor has a leveling program of courses that students with a degree in another field can complete prior to enrolling in the master’s-level coursework.

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) offers an online Master of Arts (MA) in SLP program that is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in communication science, audiology, or SLP. While the majority of the program’s coursework is offered online, students in the program must attend several weeks of face-to-face classes at UNC’s Greeley campus during the program’s first summer. In addition, students are required to complete a 12-week supervised internship at a clinical site approved by the program during the program’s final summer session.

Online Master’s in Energy Management Programs in Oklahoma

Oklahoma City University (OKCU) offers two online master’s programs in energy management: an online Master of Science (MS) in Energy Management program; and an online MS in Energy Legal Studies program. Both are 30-credit, two-year, cohort-based programs in which students progress through required coursework as a group, and both programs require students to attend two campus-based residency sessions. The Energy Management program focuses on accounting, economics, finance, and leadership in the energy sector, while the Energy Legal Studies program focuses on contracts, property law, environmental regulations, and legal research and writing for businesses in the energy sector.

The University of Tulsa offers an online Master of Energy Business program that is designed for students who hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, business, or economics and who have a minimum of two years of business experience, preferably in the energy sector. The 34-credit program is designed to be completed in 24 months by students who enroll part-time.

Among the out-of-state schools in the Oklahoma region that offer online master’s in energy and energy management program are two schools in neighboring states: the University of Denver (DU); and Texas A&M University. DU’s University College offers an online MS in Environmental Policy and Management program with a concentration in Energy and Sustainability. It is a 48-credit, 12-course online program that can be completed in a few as 12 months and that focuses on the renewable and alternative energy industries. Texas A&M has an online MS in Energy program that can be completed in ten months and that focuses on fossil and non-fossil energy resources, sustainable energy practices and technologies, and entrepreneurship, law, and policy in the energy sector.
