Widener University Online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The School of Nursing at Widener University offers an online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This is a degree completion program and assumes the transfer of 92 previous credits and a current RN license. Courses are based on the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Essentials which include outcomes such as diverse nursing practice, utilizing evidence-based practice, safety and quality of care promotion, and a practice of lifelong learning. Topics covered include health care policy and finance, patient health assessments, nursing research, the history of professional nursing, ethics and population health.

The RN to BSN program comprises 30 credits and is 100% online with no campus visits or practicums required. However, students must complete two guided projects within their community. Start dates are offered in the Fall, Spring, or Summer. Students can choose an accelerated two-semester program, a traditional three-semester program, or a flexible program at their own pace.

Widener University delivers its project-based RN to BSN courses asynchronously for greater student flexibility. Courses are highly experiential and include two guided projects within the student’s community. All students participate in an online New Student Orientation to learn the online learning system. Widener also fosters career preparation, service projects, and collaboration. Student services include 24/7 online technical support, access to a program manager, a personal student services coordinator (SSC), and the career services department.

RN to BSN courses include Population Health for the RN; Research Design for the RN; Genetics and Genomics for the RN; Gerontology for the RN; Nursing Theory and Professional Practice of the RN; Evidence-Based Practice for the RN; Nursing Leadership and Management for the RN; and Health Care Policy for the RN.
