Sacred Heart University Online RN to BSN Program

The College of Nursing at Sacred Heart University (SHU) offers an online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Topics covered include healthcare across cultures, clinical leadership, bioethics, information technology, health assessments, individual and family nursing, and evidence-based practice. Small class sizes and a flexible online format make this degree ideal for full-time working nurses. The degree prepares graduates for entry-level positions in nursing. For those interested in earning a Master of Science in Nursing, Sacred Heart University also offers an accelerated RN to MSN program.

The online RN to BSN consists of 120 credits, at least 30 of which must be completed through SHU. Applicants may transfer up to 90 credits thereby reducing the overall tuition cost. The program begins six times per year in January, March, April, June, August, and October. The RN to BSN degree can be completed in one and a half to three years depending on the number of credits transferred and the number of courses taken every 8 weeks. Coursework is 100% online with no campus visits required, however, students must complete practicum hours where they live.

Sacred Heart University delivers courses completely asynchronously through the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). Tools for collaboration include podcasts, VoiceThread, Hypothes.is, Remind, FlipGrid, and Poll Everywhere. Students should expect to spend 12 to 15 hours per week per course. Two courses also require practicum hours.

In order to earn the RN to BSN degree, students must complete 14 credits of prerequisites, 49 credits of liberal arts and science and 57 credits of courses in nursing. Up to 90 credits may be transferred. Nursing major courses for the online RN to BSN may include The Human Journey in Nursing; Information Technology for Nursing Practice; Evidence Based Practice; Populations and Global Health; Leadership in Contemporary Nursing Practice; and Health Assessment for RNs.

Sacred Heart University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The online RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
