Southern New Hampshire University Online MA in History

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) offers an online Master of Arts in History program that gives students the choice of a general path or concentrations in American History, Military History, and Public History. The program focuses on preparing graduates for history-related positions in education, government, public arenas, or private business. Through analyzing primary and secondary historical sources, the methodologies, biases, and credibility of historiography, and researching specific areas of history, students gain a deeper understanding of how history is made and recorded.

MA in History students can explore history through research and writing or by exploring relevant subjects pertaining to history such as current technology for the preservation of history. The curriculum includes the use of quantitative reasoning to examine history and information systems to help understand the past.

The SNHU MA in History program comprises 33 credits and can be completed in as few as 15 months by taking two courses per 10-week session. Both part-time and full-time options are available. Graduate online programs at SNHU begin five times yearly in September or October, December, February or March, May, and July or August.

No campus visits or practicum experiences are required, although general track students have the option of completing an internship. This program does not lead to teaching licensure. SNHU delivers courses asynchronously for added flexibility as students can log in at times convenient for them to complete assignments. Within the dashboard, graduate history students may find recorded videos, presentations, readings, research assignments, and assessments. Coursework is laid out in detail each week so that graduate history students can plan their time more effectively.

Graduates of the SNHU online MA in History may go on to careers as government employees, traditional historians, secondary teachers, college professors, library curators, historical preservationists, or publishers of educational content.
