Arizona State University - Online Bachelor of Science in Health Education and Health Promotion

The School of Nutrition and Health Promotion at Arizona State University (ASU) offers an online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Education and Health Promotion. This program is specifically designed for students seeking a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential. To that end, the program helps students develop an understanding of issues addressed by Certified Health Education Specialists. Topics covered include injury prevention, nutrition, sexual health education, substance abuse prevention, stress and chronic disease prevention, and emotional health education.

The BS in Health Education and Health Promotion can be completed in 4 years on a full-time basis, with courses beginning every 7.5 weeks. The BS degree comprises 120 credits through 39 courses. The program is 100% online with no campus visits required. Students are required to complete an internship or an applied project. If students do not meet the minimum GPA requirement or are not in the top 25% of their high school graduating class, ACT/SAT scores will be required.

ASU starts all online students with an online orientation to learn to navigate the Learning Management System (LMS). Courses are delivered asynchronously through recorded videos, group and individual assignments, online simulations, and evaluations. Some synchronous assignments and activities may be required. Students interact and collaborate through online conferencing and multimedia tools such as discussion boards, chats, and email.

In addition to general degree requirements, courses for the online BS in Health Education and Health Promotion may include Health Behavior Theory; Literacy and Critical Inquiry; Methods of Health Education; Health Promotion Program Planning and Implementation; Health Promotion Program Evaluation; Stress Management for Wellness; Community Health; Health Advocacy in Health Education; and Health Promotion Program Management and Administration.
