Arizona State University - Online BS and BAS in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University offers an online Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation. These programs are designed to merge entrepreneurship and innovation in the healthcare industry.

The BS in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation covers topics such as change theory, ethics, evidence-based decision making, innovation, entrepreneurship, transforming health care, and community health. Students may pursue such careers as: hospital administrator, innovation director, entrepreneur, intrapreneur, or health care strategist.

The BAS in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation is designed for students with an AAS degree in allied health fields. Topics covered include health innovation, ethics in organizations, transforming healthcare, leadership, communication, evidence-based practice, and health care transformation. Students gain an integrated perspective of health care systems in order to create innovative health care products, systems and processes.

The BS degree can be completed in four years on a full-time basis, while the BAS can be completed in two years. Courses begin every 7.5 weeks. The BS degree requires completion of 120 credits through 40 courses. The BAS degree requires the transfer of 60 credits from an AAS degree and completion of 60 credits through ASU. The programs are 100% online with no campus visits required. If freshman students are not in the top 25% of their graduating high school class or do not meet the minimum GPA requirement, ACT/SAT scores will be required.

ASU currently delivers courses mostly asynchronously through its Learning Management System (LMS). All online students begin with an online orientation to learn to navigate the LMS. Although some synchronous activities may be required, courses are mostly asynchronous and may include pre-recorded videos, individual and group assignments, online simulations and case studies, tests, and quizzes. Peer/faculty interaction takes place through phone, email, online conferencing and multimedia tools such as discussion boards and chat.

In addition to general degree requirements, courses for the online BS in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation may include Health Entrepreneurship and Value Creation; Introduction to Health Professions in the U.S. Health Care System; Health Innovation: Foundational Concepts; Philosophy of Science in Health Care: Understanding Paradigms of Health and Healing; Introduction to Human Communication; and Transforming Health Care: A Systems Perspective for Innovation. Students are encouraged to pursue an internship during the program.
