The College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University offers an online Master of Science in Cybersecurity degree. The Engineering@Syracuse program focuses on the protection of web, mobile, and other online systems, data breaches, data mining, new computer and IT systems, and systems assurance. Applicants must have a BS in computer science or computer engineering to apply. Syracuse University is recognized by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) and a Center of Academic Excellence in Research (CAE-R).
Students may begin the MS in Cybersecurity program four times per year. The degree consists of 30 credits and can be completed in just 15 months full-time. Part-time options are available, however the degree must be completed within four years. Courses are offered online and students must attend at least one in-person immersion during their program, while others are optional. Immersions are offered Friday through Sunday the first week of each semester.

The online experience for the MS in Cybersecurity is highly interactive with live, weekly online classes that take place face-to-face. Students collaborate through open discussions, share documents, and participate in small group breakout sessions. Syracuse University utilizes the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) and Cybersecurity courses feature hands-on learning, interactive videos, recorded lectures, and group projects. In addition immersions serve to facilitate collaboration and peer/faculty relationships, offering workshops and guest speakers for student consumption. Cybersecurity students also receive a global membership to WeWork which provides workspaces where students can study in groups, attend events, and use the provided amenities. Finally, students have access to several services including one-on-one coaching and career services, a worldwide network of professionals and alumni, and 24/7 technical support.
The MS in Cybersecurity comprises 30 credits that includes core courses and electives. Core courses include Computer Security; Internet Security; Design and Analysis of Algorithms; Principles of Operating Systems; and Assurance Foundations. Elective choices include Fundamentals of Data and Knowledge Mining; Biometrics; Machine Learning; Introduction to Cryptography; Advanced Data Structures and Algorithms; Android Programming; Advanced Computer Architecture; Software Engineering; and Software Modeling.
Students without a solid background in the required competencies for the degree may need to complete preparatory courses including Data Structures and Algorithms; and Computer Organization and Operating System Design.
