The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) offers an online Master of Arts (MA) in Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMHS) in Cybersecurity Policy and Management. In collaboration with 3 research universities, the PLuS Alliance gives students the ability to share information and ideas across three continents by taking shared online courses and collaborating with students and faculty from around the globe. The program is uniquely designed for students who desire to work in leadership roles in vulnerable areas of cybersecurity such as hazards, homeland security, and emergencies. The MA prepares students to address and manage emerging threats, including in the areas of public policy and practice.

Courses are offered online through ASU, as well as through the PLuS Alliance through which students may take up to three courses from the University of New South Wales. The online EMHS MA in Cybersecurity Policy and Management can be completed in as little as one year. ASU courses begin every 7.5 weeks. The degree requires completion of 33 credits over 11 courses. The program is 100% online with no campus visits required. A culminating applied project is included in the degree completion.

Students applying to the EMHS MA in Cybersecurity Policy and Management must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of the following areas: public health; criminal justice; criminology; public service; social work; sociology; public administration; public safety; parks and recreation management; fire service management; applied or environmental sciences; geography; or a closely related degree from an accredited college or university. ASU also offers an accelerated degree option where students may earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in about five years. The accelerated degree includes a BS in Public Service and Public Policy (Emergency Management and Homeland Security).

ASU delivers the EMHS MA in Cybersecurity Policy and Management asynchronously online through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Materials include recorded lectures, assignments, and online assessments. Interaction with faculty and fellow students takes place through online conferencing and multimedia tools such as discussion boards and chat, as well as via email and phone.

The EMHS MA in Cybersecurity Policy and Management program consists of 18 credits of required courses, a concentration course, electives, and a culminating applied project. Required courses include Hazards Governance: GIS for Hazards Analysis; Homeland Security; Integrated Emergency Management; Program Evaluation for Emergency Management and Homeland Security; and Applied Data Analysis in Criminal Justice. The concentration course is U.S. Cyber and Information Security Policy. Electives may be from restricted lists and/or include PLuS Alliance courses as well as research courses.
