SNHU - Online Bachelor's Programs in Finance, Financial Planning, and Accounting & Finance

Southern New Hampshire University offers an online Bachelor of Science in Finance with an optional concentration in financial planning and an online BS in Accounting Finance degree. The BS in Finance degree covers topics including ethics and regulations, investment vehicles, capital budgeting, risk assessment, corporate social responsibility and corporate sustainability. Graduates will learn the skills and knowledge needed to prepare for entry to mid-level finance positions.

SNHU also offers an accelerated BS-to-MS pathway for those who wish to earn their master’s degree in finance faster by taking 2 graduate-level courses during their bachelor’s program. In order to pursue the BS-to-MS pathway, students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and have completed at least 90 credits of the program.

The BS in Finance with a concentration in Financial Planning allows students to learn about and experience what financial planners do in practice. This degree is designed for those who wish to become a personal financial advisor. This degree meets the educational requirements to take the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam.

SNHU’s BS in Accounting Finance degree combines both accounting and finance principles into one comprehensive degree. Topics covered include asset allocation, portfolio diversification, financial accounting and reporting, security analysis and government regulations. The program offers students the opportunity to pursue a specific path of interest with 18 credits of electives possible.

The online finance programs begin 6 times per year in January, March, May, August, September and October. Courses last 8 weeks and the programs are 100% online with no campus visits required. The degrees can be completed in 4 years on a full-time basis and each degree is comprised of 120 credits.

Materials for the online BS in Finance and BS in Accounting Finance are available 24/7 for increased student flexibility. The programs are hands-on and student-centered. Peer and faculty interaction is promoted through discussion questions and group projects. Students communicate through email, phone calls, discussion boards and multimedia tools. Each week’s materials and assignments are clearly defined so that students can better manage their schedules. All students receive an advisor and have access to resources such as the writing center, IT solutions, and tutoring and career services. In addition, students have access to SNHUconnect, an online portal for students to communicate with faculty and peers, collaborate on projects, get feedback and introduce new ideas.

The online BS in Finance includes 42 general education credits, 30 business core credits, 21 credits of major courses, and 27 credits of electives, which may include 9 credits specifically for the financial planning concentration. Major courses include classes like Fundamentals of Investments, Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Multinational Corporate Finance, Financial Regulations and Ethics and Wealth Management. The financial planning concentration may include courses like Federal Taxation I, Advanced Personal Financial Planning, Financial Plan Development, Estate Planning and Taxation, Risk Management and Insurance Planning and Managerial Accounting.

The online BS in Accounting Finance includes general degree requirements, 30 business core credits, 30 major course credits and 18 credits of free electives. Business core courses may include Financial Accounting, Principles of Finance, Managerial Accounting, Business Law I, Introduction to International Business, Business Systems Analysis and Design, Introduction to Marketing, Human Relations in Administration and Operations Management. In addition, students complete the Strategic Management and Policy capstone course. Major courses may include Cost Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I-II, Money and Banking, Corporate Finance, Multinational Corporate Finance and Fundamentals of Investments.
