Southern New Hampshire University offers an online Associate of Science in Accounting degree and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree with an optional concentration in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination. Students can also pursue an accelerated BS-to-MS pathway in which they take graduate-level courses throughout their undergraduate program – all at the undergraduate rate. Students must meet the particular requirements to qualify for this path, including completion of at least 90 credits in the bachelor’s degree.

Earning an associate degree in accounting is a great first step to a role in an accounting related field and is foundational to becoming a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Graduates can begin entry-level positions in accounting or continue on to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or another business degree. In addition, SNHU’s nationwide network of alumni offers internship experiences and business opportunities. Topics covered include economics, statistics, marketing, analysis of accounting information, tax regulations in the U.S., company finances and ethical decision-making.

SNHU’s bachelor’s in accounting was created to help students develop expertise in the areas of business and accounting locally and globally. Topics covered include financial analysis, ethics, taxation, general accounting principles and auditing. Students learn to prepare financial statements, records, tax returns and audits and analyze business and accounting data. The Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination concentration allows students to gain the same foundational education in business and accounting while focusing on forensic accounting, as well as fraud detection, investigation, prevention and documentation. SNHU’s BS in Accounting helps prepare students to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

Both the online AS and BS in Accounting offer 6 start dates per year in September, October, January, March, May, and August. Terms are 8 weeks long, and the programs are 100% online with no campus visits required. Students can complete their associate degrees in 2 years if enrolled full time while the bachelor’s degree can be finish finished in 4 years if enrolled as a full-time student.

Courses for the online associate and bachelor’s in accounting are delivered in a hands-on, student-centered format. SNHU promotes interaction through discussion questions and group projects. Students communicate through discussion boards, multimedia tools, email and phone calls. All assignments and materials are laid out each week so that students can better plan their schedules. All students are assigned advisors who can help plan schedules and connect students to resources such as admissions, the writing center, IT solutions, tutoring, career and library services. Students also have access to SNHUconnect, an online student portal where students can talk with professors, staff and peers to gain feedback, work together on projects and exchange ideas.

The online AS in Accounting is made of 60 credits. Courses may include Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Introduction to International Business, Introduction to Information Technology, Business Law I, Business Systems Analysis and Design, Intermediate Accounting I-II, Introduction to Marketing, Human Relations in Administration and Federal Taxation.

The online BS in Accounting consists of 120 credits, including 27 credits of major courses, 6 credits of major electives and 15 elective credits. Course offerings may include Cost Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I-III, Federal Taxation I, Financial Statement Analysis/Business Valuation, Advanced Accounting, Auditing Principles and Business Law II.

SNHU’s forensic accounting and fraud examination concentration includes courses like Auditing and Forensic Accounting, Detection/Prevention Fraudulent Financial Statements, Interview Techniques/Legal Aspects Fraud and Investigating with Computers.
