Southern New Hampshire University - Online Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Accounting

The College of Online and Continuing Education at Southern New Hampshire University offers an online Associate of Science in Accounting degree and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree with an optional concentration in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination. In addition, students may pursue an accelerated BS-to-MS pathway in which graduate-level courses are taken at the same time as undergraduate courses and at the undergraduate rate. Students must meet the particular requirements to qualify for this path, including completion of at least 90 credits in the bachelor’s degree.

The Associate of Science in Accounting program begins the educational path to an accounting related field and is foundational to becoming a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Graduates can begin entry-level positions in accounting or continue on to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or another business degree. In addition, a nationwide network of SNHU alumni offers internship experiences and business opportunities. Topics covered include economics, statistics, marketing, analysis of accounting information, tax regulations in the United States, company finances, and ethical decision-making.

The BS in Accounting degree seeks to develop expertise in the areas of business and accounting both locally and globally. Topics covered include financial analysis, ethics, taxation, general accounting principles, and auditing. Students learn to prepare financial statements and records, tax returns, audits, and analyze business and accounting data. The Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination concentration allows students to gain the same foundational education in business and accounting while also focusing on forensic accounting, as well as fraud detection, investigation, prevention, and documentation. The BS in Accounting degree helps prepare students to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

Both the online AS and BS in Accounting offer six start dates per year in September, October, January, March, May, and August. Terms run eight weeks and the programs are 100% online with no campus visits required. Students completing the AS degree can finish in two years on a full-time basis. Students pursuing the BS degree can finish in four years on a full-time basis.

Courses for the online AS and BS in Accounting are delivered asynchronously in a hands-on, student-centered format. SNHU promotes interaction through discussion questions and group projects. Students communicate through discussion boards, multimedia tools, email, and phone calls. All assignments and materials are laid out each week so that students can better budget their time. All students are assigned an advisor through whom students plan schedules, and connect to resources such as admissions, the writing center, IT solutions, and tutoring, career and library services. In addition, students have access to SNHUconnect which is an online student union. Here students can meet up with professors, staff, and peers to gain feedback, work together on projects, and exchange ideas.
