Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (SMUMN) Graduate Business and Technology Department offers an online Master of Science in Accountancy degree. The program has a strong focus on management and business collaboration. Therefore the program combines the advanced accounting skills needed with the soft skills necessary to successfully lead and connect with others. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam.

The online program is designed to be full-time with 6 credits per term and completed in 20 months. Students must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and a resume is required with professional experience outlined. Students may begin the program in the fall, spring, or summer.

The online Master of Accountancy through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is primarily online with one required campus visit where students deliver their Master’s Capstone course findings to peers and other professionals in the accounting field. Saint Mary’s equips each student with an iPad for the duration of the program in order to give students the resources necessary to complete assignments, engage in online activities and use university programs. SMUMN utilizes the Engage Learning Management System (LMS) and all courses are delivered asynchronously, while assignments and tests have specific due dates.

The Master of Accountancy comprises 30 credits of which 24 credits are core courses, 3 credits are electives, and 3 credits come from the capstone course. Examples of core courses include Financial Communication; Leadership and Ethics; Accounting Information Systems; Advanced Audit and Internal Controls; and Strategic Management Accounting. Students choose one elective from the following two courses: Nonprofit and Government Accounting, or Human Resource Management Strategy.
