The John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University (WVU) offers an online Master of Science in Business Data Analytics degree that gives students the tools and training necessary to apply statistical and data analytics techniques to problem solving in the business world. Students in the program learn about database technologies, data mining, performance metrics, and quantitative decision-making. This is a 30-credit master’s degree that can be completed in one year of full-time enrollment. In addition to online coursework, students are required to participate in a Business Analytics Practicum and attend two on-campus immersion sessions, one at the beginning and one at the end of the program.
The online MS in Business Data Analytics at WVU utilizes asynchronous instruction, which means that video lectures and other course materials are accessible to students on-demand through the school’s web-based course management system. Students can also contact and communicate with instructors through an online learning platform. The on-campus immersion sessions that begin and end the program create additional opportunities for interaction with instructors.
WVU’s Business Data Analytics curriculum focuses on developing proficiencies and expertise in advanced statistical methods, data mining, data visualization, and complex decision making processes. Students take courses that address core concepts in Business Intelligence, and the Ethics of Data Collection. They learn about data technologies and analytical practices in classes in Data Management, Decision Science, Business Simulation Modeling, Data Visualization, and Data Mining for Businesses. The program concludes with a Business Analytics Practicum that challenges students to apply skills and training in Business Analytics to situations encountered in the real world of business operations and management.
