The Online Master of Science in Engineering program at University of California, Riverside offers a master’s degree specialization in Data Science focused on the technology and techniques used in today’s information-rich business ecosystem. Housed in the Bourns College of Engineering, the program builds upon a solid foundation in engineering and engineering management. The Data Science track then targets skills used by analytics professionals to identify and visualize patterns in large data sets, the computer systems that power data mining operations in the field, and the methods employed by data scientists to extract meaning from vast streams of information. This is a 36-credit degree that can be completed in as few as 13 months of full-time enrollment. It is designed to accommodate working professionals, and offers the flexibility of part-time enrollment that can extend beyond 13 months as well.
UC Riverside’s online Master of Science in Engineering with a focus in Data Science employs asynchronous instruction, and does not require any campus visits during the program. Recorded lectures and all other course materials are available to students online at all times for maximum convenience. The program has four start dates during the year (Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall), and operates on a quarterly system. All of the online Master of Science in Engineering degrees at UC Riverside, including the Data Science specialization, require students to take four capstone courses throughout the program, which ultimately account for four of the degree’s 36 total credits.
Students complete the remaining 32 credits by enrolling in eight courses, each of which counts for four credits. These include: Data Mining Techniques, Statistical Computing, Statistical Mining Methods, Advanced Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval & Web Search, and Data Visualization & Big Data Tools.
The University of California, Riverside is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
