Thomas Edison State University - Online Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics

Thomas Edison State University (TESU) offers an online Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics program in conjunction with the Institute of Statics Education at Statistics.com. The program combines general education courses offered through TESU with an analytics curriculum designed by Statistics.com. The program is designed to accommodate full-time and part-time enrollment. Students must complete 120 credit hours for graduation, or the equivalent of a four-year undergraduate degree program. Half of those credit hours are conferred through TESU general education requirements; 33 credits hours fall under the Data Science and Analytics major; and the 27 additional credit hours are earned through elective coursework. The time to completion varies depending on the number of transfer credits students brings into the program. All of the coursework is offered online and there are no required campus visits.

TESU’s undergraduate courses and the analytics coursework offered by Statistics.com utilize online learning platforms that support asynchronous instruction. This means that students have on-demand access to videotaped lectures and other course materials 24-7. Web forums and online discussion groups are used to facilitate interactions between classmates and with instructors.

The general education requirements for TESU’s online bachelor’s programs include courses in the following areas: Intellectual and Practical Skills like writing and quantitative literacy; Knowledge of Human Cultures; Understanding the Physical and Natural World; Civic and Global Learning; and Mathematics. Each incoming student receives an academic evaluation from TESU that awards general education credits based on college coursework, military training, professional training, and/or professional licenses and certifications.

The Data Science and Analytics curriculum offered by Statistics.com covers courses in the following subjects: Introductory Statistics; Predictive Analytics; Machine Learning; Linear Programming; Social Network Analysis; Forecasting Analytics; and Interactive Data Visualization. In addition, students in the BS in Data Science and Analytics program may earn an additional 12 credit-hour through elective coursework in areas like: Financial Risk Modeling; Spatial Statistics with Geographical Information Systems; Risk Simulation and Queuing; Introduction to Database Queries and SQL; Regression Analysis; R Programming; and Python Programming for Analytics.
