Southern New Hampshire University

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) offers two online data analytics degree programs; a Master of Science in Data Analytics that targets advanced data collection technologies and data interpretation techniques across a broad range of industries and organizations; and a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics where students learn not only to dissect information, but also to put it into context.

SNHU’s BS in Data Analytics is a 120-credit program that includes 45 credits of general education coursework. The curriculum focuses on a broad range of knowledge and proficiencies in the areas of business management, information technology, mathematics, and data acquisition and processing. It is designed to accommodate full-time and part-time students. Full-time students typically take two courses per term, and can complete the program in three-and-a-half years. Students attending part-time may opt to take one course during each of the school’s six terms per year, and typically graduate within six-and-a-half years. Transferring credits from previous undergraduate-level coursework can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the bachelor’s program.

The online master’s and bachelor’s programs in data analytics offered by SNHU are 100% online and do not require any campus visits. Both programs utilize a learning management system (LMS) that supports asynchronous instruction. This means that recorded video lectures and other course materials are accessible on-demand through the LMS. Students follow a plan for each course, turning in assignments and taking exams through the LMS by specified dates. Online discussion forums allow for peer-to-peer interactions, and students can communicate with instructors and classmates through the LMS.

SNHU’s master’s in data analytics curriculum is built on a foundation of eight core courses that explore key analytics proficiencies. These courses include: Foundations of Data; Enterprise Data Management; Decision Methods and Modeling; Presentation and Visualization of Data; Optimization and Risk Assessment; Predictive Analytics; Advanced Data Analytics; and Project Management. This core coursework culminates with a Capstone in Data Analytics that gives students the opportunity to synthesize and apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in the program by executing an analytics project of their own choosing. Students complete the remaining requirements through elective coursework in the areas of Database Administration; Information Technology; and Quantitative and Operations Management.

SNHU’s undergraduate data analytics curriculum integrates coursework from four primary areas: mathematics; information technology (IT); data analytics; and quantitative studies/operations management. Students must also complete or place out of 45 credit hours of general education requirements. The data analytics major encompasses 13 required courses, including: Single Variable Calculus; Applied Statistics; Application Development; Data Analytics; Data Mining; Decision Support Presentation; Data and Information Management; Project Management in IT; Database Design; and Management Science through Spreadsheets. Students then have the option of choosing three elective courses, either within the major, or in related areas like business law, public relations, and social media. In addition to a capstone project, students have the option of taking one of the following database administration classes: Introduction to Statistical Analysis System; Introduction to Structured Query Language; or Oracle SQL Fundamentals.

Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The MS in Data Analytics program is recognized by the Professional Science Master’s national office as a Professional Science Master’s program.
