Robert Morris University - Online Master Of Science In Data Analytics Program

The School of Communications and Information Systems at Robert Morris University offers an online Master of Science in Data Analytics program that has two areas of concentration: Data Analytics and Enterprise Systems. Both concentrations are grounded in key data analytics proficiencies, including the technologies used for data collection and database management, and the processes employed in the interpretation of large and complex datasets. The master’s program requires 30 credits of coursework for graduation, which can be accomplished in two years of part-time enrollment by students who take one course per eight-week session. The MS in Data Analytics program is 100% online and does not require any campus visits.

RMU Online, which is a division of Robert Morris University, utilizes a learning management system (LMS) that supports asynchronous instruction. This means that students have access to video lectures and other course material on-demand, through the LMS. Peer-to-peer interaction is supported by the LMS through online discussion boards, and students can contact instructors via phone and email. RMU Online also provides each student with dedicated academic and career counselors.

The MS in Data Analytics curriculum is built on a foundation of seven core courses in analytics. These include an Introduction to Data Analytics, as well as the following six courses: Data Warehousing; Data Mining; Computer Network Security; Geographic Information Systems; Database Management Systems; and DSS Analysis and Design. The remaining crediting requirements are fulfilled through three elective courses in subject areas like: IT Project Management; Management Information Systems; Networks and Data Communication; Corporate Systems Risk Mitigation; and Managing Intelligence Systems.

The Enterprise Systems concentration is quite similar to the straight Data Analytics concentration, with only two core course variations. Students begin by taking five of the core analytics courses: Introduction to Data Analytics; Computer Network Security; Geographic Information Systems; Data Mining; and Data Warehousing. The additional courses required as part of the Enterprise Systems curriculum are COBOL Programming and Enterprise Database Systems. Students may then choose three electives in subject areas like: Enterprise Operating Systems; Advanced COBOL Programming; and Enterprise Transaction Processing Systems.

Robert Morris University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
