The Department of Business and Economics and the School of Online and Extended Studies at Utica College offer an online Master of Science in Accounting degree. Topics covered include financial audits, budgeting, financial reports, financial analysis and forecasting, managerial accounting, corporate finance, taxes, and quantitative analysis. Graduates of the MS in Accounting program will be prepared to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in most states, and may go on to careers with financial auditing organizations, public accounting firms, government or nonprofit agencies, or corporate accounting departments.
The MS in Accounting begins in the fall, spring, or summer. The program consists of 30 credits and can be completed in as little as two years, part-time. It is 100% online with no campus visits required. Students do not need a bachelor’s degree in accounting to apply, however they must meet the following requirements: completion of 30 credits of business courses which must include finance, statistics, and microeconomics; completion of 18 credits of accounting courses including Accounting I-II, one course in tax accounting and one course in auditing. Work experience is recommended but is not required.

Utica College utilizes the Engage Learning Management System (LMS) for asynchronous course delivery. Courses may include audio/visual components, group discussions, assignments, readings, assessments, and cyber forensics. Students interact with peers and faculty through online discussions, chat, and email. Online support includes library resources, academic advisors, financial counselors, 24/7 technical support, and career planning services. Students should expect to spend 12-15 hours working on each course per week.
Required courses for the online MS in Accounting include Advanced Corporate Tax; Financial Statement Analysis; Advanced Auditing; Forensic Accounting; Quantitative Analysis for Management; Seminar in Professional Accounting Practice; Seminar in Advanced Managerial Accounting; and Advanced Corporate Finance. Students then choose two electives from courses such as Insurance and Risk Management for Today’s Professional; Managing Risk Across the Enterprise; Seminar in Assurance and Fraud Auditing; and Property and Casualty Risk Management for Business and Individuals.
