The New School was founded in 1919 as The New School for Social Research. Its main campus is in the vibrant Greenwich Village area of New York City. The New School is a renowned progressive university made up of eight schools that you bonded together by a common goal: to inspire and prepare it's over 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students to be catalysts for positive change in the world around them.

The New School first started to offer its online programs in 1994 with the support of financial grants form FIPSE, AT&T, Citibank, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The New School degree programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The credits and degrees granted by The New School are accepted and recognized by other accredited colleges, universities and professional institutions across the country. The New School is a private university and has been granted a charter that grants it university status by the Regents of the State of New York.

The New School Online Classroom Experience

The New Schools online courses meet asynchronously which means that you can do your coursework at any time of day or night. You do not have to be online at the same time as your classmates in order to join in discussion and post responses. You can read their answers anytime that you are online and you will get the feeling of everyone being there working together.

Students studying for credit at The New School must fulfil course requirements including: writing papers, taking exams and completing projects, just as they would in a traditional class room environment. It is highly recommended that students log in a minimum of three times a week.

Technical Services and Support

Online student orientation is open to all students who are new to online learning with The New School. Additionally you will receive a technical orientation and information on the resources that are available to the students of The New School. The orientation will give you the chance to learn how to work within the online classroom setting, learn about online communications methods and gain a sense of the dynamics of an online classroom before your actual course begins.

Scholarships Offered: To be considered for institutional scholarships, undergraduate students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
