Online Customer Service Degree

As a customer service representative or manager, you are the public face of the company often having to deal with a myriad of customer questions and suggestions in addition to the expected litany of complaints. You must be a skilled, tactful, and diplomatic communicator with good mediation skills plus a well-versed knowledge of company policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Customer service professionals primarily work in call centers but sometimes may have to deal with face-to-face interactions or answer questions and complaints by e-mail.

Most online customer service degrees are designed to prime you for entry-level career openings in which an associates degree or professional certification is required. Typically, employees in customer service can move into higher positions within the company such as management or product research.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics states that careers in customer service will grow at a healthy 25-percent through 2016, which is much higher than average for all career areas. The hourly median earnings for customer service professionals were about $15. Earnings may be higher for individuals who are bi or poly-lingual or who have special skills or management experience.
